Phone Mast on Broom Way near the entrance to CEMAST

The mast was erected under ‘emergency powers’ allowed by a Telecommunications Acts of 1984 and 2003 which permits mobile phone operators to install equipment without the need for planning permission by virtue of General Permitted Development Order (GPDO). These emergency powers at the time the mast went up in November 2016, were for a period not exceeding 6 months, so we expected the mast to be removed in May 2017.  In the meantime the government revised Part 16 of the GPDO to allow “the use of land in an emergency” for a period not exceeding 18 months.

Also within the change of the ‘Emergency Order’ it makes provision that where a mast was put up under the 6 month regulations and the emergency need remains for the period of time for existing masts is automatically extended to 18 months. In our case the ‘emergency’ remains as the mast was housed on buildings within Daedalus that have now been demolished. A suitable permanent location has now been identified to be next to the BP Service Station on Broom way - hopefully soon.
